Snail sculpture Love

Blackberry snail | Process

Starting with my second full snail sculpture. This idea came up from the moodboard I created for sculpting inspriration.

Also for the second model I decided to create my own base/ground from cardboard and aluminium foil. In advanced I made several “professional” wooden socle. But I made the mistake to spray paint them in advance for a extra smooth finish and didn’t consider that the painted wood can’t go in the oven for the clay hardening process. So at least for this project it was to complicated.

Before I even started my snail figures, I made molds from real snail houses using polymere clay. But having such a big shell collection made me decide to use a real house for the second model. I worked totally fine in the oven

from sketch to 3D figure

The illustration was done one or two years ago with no intention to make a sculpture from it. But it will definitely not be the last artwork I want to transform into a 3D model.
